Day 5

Take three minutes to watch this powerful Dove experiment called Choose Beautiful. Women all over the world make the choice to walk through one of two public doors labeled beautiful and average. It's heartbreaking to watch the struggle.

A woman in the ad sums it up perfectly, “It was a bit confronting, to be honest, to see these big signs and feeling like you had to choose and be self-conscious of how you perceive yourself and perhaps if it lines up with how the rest of the world perceives you.”

This is what we’re always doing, isn’t it? Measuring ourselves up to our own idea of beauty and then doing a second match up to see if the rest of the world agrees. We don’t think we’re worthy of being called beautiful because that word has become a definition for what a select portion of the population looks like.

The media doesn’t have a very good reputation at representing the human spectrum. Turn on the television and see how many people you see with physical disabilities, how many elderly women you see, and how many people from low-incomes are represented. Watch as the news anchors cake on makeup, plaster on a smile, and put on a show.

This is not beauty.

beauty is a vibration

Beauty is love. It's a vibration that flows through your body. It's a manifestation in each one of your cells. It has nothing to do with what you happen to look like.

When a person truly loves themselves that love radiates through their bodies. I like to say that true beauty is radiance of love. It has nothing to do with genetics. It has nothing to do with your style. It doesn’t matter what your voice sounds like or what you do for a living. It definitely has nothing to do with the size of your waist, the texture of your skin, or the clothes you choose to wear.

True beauty is an inner knowing that who you are is so much bigger than the shape of your form, so much grander than the labels minds define you with, and so much stronger than the constant criticisms of the ego.

Beauty is what you feel when you’re free of all the concerns of labels and restrictions.

It’s the feeling when you’re dancing freely in your bedroom. It’s the feeling when you’re singing loudly without a care of hitting the right note. It’s the deep knowing that you are profoundly amazing just as you are.

You don't have to justify your beauty to anyone.

Allow yourself to redefine beauty. Imagine yourself walking up to two doors labeled beautiful and average and choosing, without hesitation, to walk through beauty.
